Lowlands Bar is a great, comfortable bar in Gowanus- maybe not the closest for our Manhattan friends, but not the farthest ever. What I like about this bar is that it's not pretentious- it's the sit down and have a beer kind of place.
They've got a nice set up, with a big long bar, some tables in the front and back, and a great big patio, so definitely keep this place in mind during nice weather! 
Happy Hour, tip 8pm, is $1 off drafts and $4 wells, so that'll help your pocket!
Overall, this is a great bar and we had a blast. And so did Mr. Lego Man. :)
