Blackbird is a great bar in the middle of Alphabet city (on Avenue B,
between 10th & 11st street). You may walk right by it, since there's
not much more than a sandwich board boasting the happy hour specials in
front. But if you're paying attention, it's right in the middle of the
street on the west side. 
Once you find the bar, you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's not huge, but they make good use of the space, with a bar in the back and booths up front. They were great about saving us some tables, and we definitely filled them up with a great crowd!
The happy hour specials are good ($4 drafts & wells, and $2 off everything else), and last until 8:00pm. No food is served, but you can order in until about 9:00pm. The bartenders were really nice, and treated us very well.
I'd definitely go back, especially for a party!
