Review: Murphy's Tavern on Feb 28

Murphy's Tavern, situated in LOWER Manhattan on Stone Street (but not the fancy cobblestone stone street with the fancy fidi bars that don't have happy hour specials), is such a great find, and close to the 4 train at Bowling Green or the R at Whitehall. A true neighborhood bar, it's almost a diner-bar. There's a long, big bar on one side, and then tables and chairs with booths in the back. It wasn't super dark, it wasn't super loud, and it wasn't super snobby. (ALL great things!)

The scene was pretty diverse- locals living in the area, people just getting off work, regulars who the bartenders know their order as soon as they walk in the door. The staff was friendly and took great care of us- we all got a free shot at some point in the night!   

The happy hour specials (4pm til 8pm) were solid, with specials on beer, wine, and wells: 

• 2 for 1 bud light or miller lite draft ($5.50)
• 2 for 1 yuengling or saratoga ipa draft ($6.50)
• $5 heineken draft
• $4 for well drinks
• a white and red wine special for $6
• And a daily drink special 

Murphy's has an extensive menu (mostly bar-food type cuisine), and I definitely sampled the Friend Mac & Cheese. It was indulgent, and delicious, and little like Kraft Mac & Cheese that had been deep fried. But how do they get them to be triangles?!

 We had a grand time that evening, and special Rubix cube demonstration and discussion!

 This is a great bar that I hope to return to soon, especially on my way home from work some time!
