Iron Horse on Nov 6, 2009

One word to describe this bar: LOUD!! Although the atmosphere was likely extra 'festive' due to the celebration of the Yankee's thrilling World Series win, the music was so incredibly loud you just couldn't talk civilly. My throat hurt from shouting for 3 hours, and I don't think I was the only one. (This bar is just down the street from city hall, where there was a parade, etc. earlier that same day, so the place was packed with Yankees fans who had been drinking all day long.) I even asked the bar staff several times to turn the music down just a bit, which was to no avail. In addition, it was tough to get through the crowd at the bar to get drinks.

So, this is not my favorite happy hour spot (and I think most all the other 20 people in our group would agree). Maybe on another, less crazy night, it would be a good spot, but not sure.

Iron Horse has some fun and interesting features though, including hula-hooping, fire-breathing bartenders that dance on the bar every half hour or so (this may be entertaining, but may contribute to the long lines at the bar, since no one is being served during these 3-5 minutes of entertainment).

There is a pool table in the back, and a big screen TV. Music is from a juke box, and we might have appreciated it more if it hadn't been so darn loud! Their happy hour special is good- 1/2 price drinks til 7pm, and they extended the special for us until 8pm. Some people drink faster than me, as evidenced below...

All in all, our group still had fun, as always...along with yet another display of physical strength, or two...

So, an interesting evening at Iron Horse- if you plan on going, plan on drinking, dancing, and shouting!
